Thermomechanical characterization of phase transformation surfaces for thin SMA wires

چکیده
The phase transformation of thermal shape memory alloys (SMAs) can be described by surfaces in a temperature-stress-strain space. A novel experimental technique for the thermomechanical characterization thin SMA wires allows to scan these with high resolution. Each run uses sequence conditions traverse on different path from “full martensite” austenite” and vice versa. At all times, stress strain are kept within limits specified use wire actuators. is heated externally through silicon oil bath, which ensures controlled homogeneous temperature specimen. setup designed minimize impact large variations measurement results. Experimental results shown both mechanical contraction electrical resistance, each forms consistent transformation. Measurements external heating bath compared air.

Thermomechanical Characterization of a TiPdNi High Temperature SMA under Tension
The focus of this paper is the study of tensile work characteristics and the transformation behavior of a High Temperature Shape Memory Alloy (HTSMA) by thermomechanical characterization at temperatures ranging from 200 to 500°C. In order to investigate the above issues, a nominal composition of Ti50Pd40Ni10 HTSMA was used. The alloy was fabricated using a vacuum arc melting technique. The melt...
متن کاملInfluence of heat generation on the phase transformations and impact responses of composite plates with embedded SMA wires
In the present research, in contrast to the available papers, not only the superelasticity but also the shape memory effects are taken into account in determination of the impact responses. At the same time, in addition to modifying Brinson’s model for the shape memory alloys (SMAs), to include new parameters and loading events, and Hertz contact law, distributions of the SMA phases are conside...
متن کاملStructure and thermomechanical behavior of NiTiPt shape memory alloy wires.
The objective of this work is to understand the structure-property relationships in polycrystalline NiTiPt (Ti 42.7 at.% Ni 7.5 at %Pt) with a composition showing pseudoelasticity at ambient temperatures. Structural characterization of the alloy includes grain size determination and texture analysis while the thermomechanical properties are explored using tensile testing. Variation in heat trea...
متن کاملAnalytical Treatment of Controlled Beam Deflections Using Sma Wires
In this paper the active control of beam deflection through heating and cooling of Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) wires is examined. A phenomenological constitutive law for SMA wires is coupled with beam theory to provide predictions of beam shape upon temperature change in the SMA actuator. Both the linear and nonlinear beam theory are presented, enabling calculation of large deflections. Examples f...
متن کاملBehavior of NiTiNb SMA wires under recovery stress or prestressing
The recovery stress of martensitic shape-memory alloy [SMA] wires can be used to confine concrete, and the confining effectiveness of the SMA wires was previously proved through experimental tests. However, the behavior of SMA wires under recovery stress has not been seriously investigated. Thus, this study conducted a series of tests of NiTiNb martensitic SMA wires under recovery stress with v...
